Rolling In The D
Queen of the Spring Court and Duchess of the Rosehold
Quote: “Money can’t buy happiness? Try going without it for a while.”
Background: Renaming herself after the pale-blue weeds which grow everywhere in Detroit, the woman who calls herself “Chicory” rose quickly through the ranks of the Court of Desire, thanks to her discerning judgment and her head for numbers. Not content to allow Spring to merely enjoy the moment, but insistent on planning for future enjoyment as well, Chicory used her position as treasurer of the Spring Court to invest in key, highly-profitable businesses both in Windsor and across the river, including strip clubs, liquor stores, casinos, nightclubs, and even the occasional meth lab.
Appearance: Chicory is a woman of mixed African-American and Polish heritage, who appears to be in her early thirties. Her voluminous brown hair curls down to her shoulder-blades, and she keeps her nails well-appointed (though she’s not afraid of digging in the dirt with her hands). She dresses herself well (but not ostentatiously) in fashionable light-colored business suits, paired with sensible heels and a few tasteful pieces of gold jewelry. She is rarely seen without her smartphone and sleek black briefcase.
Storytelling Hints: Chicory is first a queen and second a businesswoman; all else is optional. She may come off as pleasant, charming, and even kindly, but like a bear trap hidden in the foliage, she will strike without warning at anyone who crosses the line. If she feels someone is (or could become) a threat to her Court and its continued success, she destroys them instantly, to keep them from putting down roots and “going to seed”. It is her business-acumen which has grown the Antler Crown into the wealthiest of the Courts in Detroit, and she is not afraid to prune away any stunted limbs or unnecessary branches to maintain its’ health.
